Maggie Valley is an exciting family destination at any time of year. During the summer months, you can see wildlife such as white tailed deer in the meadows of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and in winter the local ski slopes come to life.

However, fall is arguably the most popular season with visitors to the area. At this time of year Maggie Valley attractions are complemented by the splendour of fall colors. These colors act as the backdrop to several exciting adventures.

Admire the Fall colors in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

One of the best places to witness the full impact of the fall colors is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can hike through the park and get close to black bears, elk and white tailed deer, in their natural environment. It's a good idea to plan your visit in advance as the park can get busy at this time of year, especially during the last three weeks of October.

Explore Blackrock Mountain

Blackrock Mountain is a special place. The rocks that you find there are more than 545 million years old; that is a mind boggling age that it's difficult to imagine. Most of the people who visit the mountain do so to enjoy the hiking experience. There is a 4.6 mile hiking trail which is popular with visitors and which takes around four hours to complete, if you want to stop and admire the views along the way. If you are an experienced hiker who likes a challenge, there are several longer hiking routes for you to try.

Take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway

Give yourself plenty of time to drive the 46 miles of Blue Ridge Parkway in Haywood County. The entire length is filled with sites to see. If you are feeling really adventurous, you could set off to explore further along the entire 469-mile stretch that the Parkway covers. As with other attractions in Maggie Valley, the sights of the Blue Ridge Parkway are best during fall color season, as long as you do not mind competing for parking spots with many other visitors.

Admire the waterfalls in the area

There are several waterfalls in the Maggie Valley area. One of the most famous is Soca Falls. These falls should be viewed from the official viewing platform. You should never attempt to walk the path to the bottom of the falls as it's not an official route and is not guaranteed to be safe.

Attend an event at Maggie Valley Festival Grounds

The Festival Grounds in Maggie Valley are an event venue that is popular with locals and tourists alike. There is a full calendar of events taking place at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds throughout the year, including the Maggie Valley Fall Arts and Crafts Festival which takes place in October.

The fall is a magical time to visit Maggie Valley. You can enjoy all of the adventures that the area provides while still taking time to relax and appreciate the glorious colors of fall.
